MAE GARRETSON
AGE: 99 FORMERLY OF NORTH PLAINFIELD
Mae Garretson, 99, died peacefully on Monday Feb. 16, 2009 at Care One - the Highlands in Edison. Mae was born May 12, 1909 in Harrison, NJ to William M. and Louisa (Quick) Garretson. As a child, she moved with her family to North Plainfield, where she grew up and lived most of her life before settling to Cranford in July of 2000. She was a 1927 Graduate of North Plainfield High School and later graduated from the Drake School of Business of Plainfield in 1928.
She had worked as a bookkeeper for 58 years. Her career included working for George I. Tobin Plumbing and Heating and the Tobin & Peterson Plumbing & Heating Co. Before her retirement, she worked for DesNoyers Appliances and Plainfield and North Plainfield for 22 years. She was a former member of the Plainfield YWCA Girl Reserves and along with her sister, enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Canada.
Her beloved sister, Florence Garretson died in January of 2006. Surviving is her dear friend, Sally DelNegro of South Plainfield.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday Feb. 19, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield. (www.mccriskinfuneralhome.com ) Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
