Margaret Kaiser Obituary
AGE: 93 • formerly of Whiting
It is with profound grief that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Cobb Garratt Kaiser, 93, on Friday, May 8, 2015, at Beth Sholom Gardens in Richmond, VA.
Born in Hartford, CT, she was predeceased by her parents, Flora Ganong Garratt and James Ernest Garratt, and two brothers, John and Richard. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth M. Kaiser; four daughters, Cathryn Kaiser of Mineral Point, WI, Diane Velkoff (Jeremy) of Elverson, PA, Nancy Heller (Daniel) of Richmond, VA, and Joanne Kaiser Gardner of Chapel Hill, NC; eight grandchildren, Adam May, Dana May, Anna Freeman (CJ), Zachary Velkoff (Amy Crawford), Erin Heller, Benjamin Heller, Lindsey Gardner, and Shelby Gardner; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Samuel Freeman; and extended family in California and Texas.
Margaret, or "Mike" as she was fondly known by many, graduated from Douglass College (Rutger's University), New Brunswick, NJ. She was a nurturing homemaker who devoted extra time to Marriage Enrichment, Cranford United Methodist Church, American Field Service exchange program, and Girl Scouts. A former NJ resident of Nutley, Cranford, Lavallette, and Whiting before moving to Richmond, VA, Margaret's greatest loves included visiting with family and friends, walking on the beach and swimming in the ocean at the NJ shore, gardening and growing plants, watching birds, hosting foreign students and travelers, volunteering at church activities, listening to music, travelling, and maintaining genealogic records as a member of The Society of Mayflower Descendants.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at Beth Sholom Parkside, 1600 John Rolfe Parkway, Richmond, VA. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Island Beach State Park, (PO Box 406, Seaside Park, NJ 08752 http://thefriendsofislandbeach statepark.org/), Crestwood Manor Employee Appreciation Fund (50 Lacey Rd, Whiting, NJ 08759), or charity of your choice. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Brielle, NJ will be private.
