Maurice Ridgway Obituary
Shirley, WV - Maurice Inman Ridgway, Jr., 76, of Shirley, WV departed this life Friday, January 12, 2018 in Genesis Health Care, Sistersville, WV. He was born December 29, 1941 in Bayville, NJ a son of the late Maurice Inman Ridgway and Myrtle Taylor Ridgway.
Maurice was the founder of the Sounds of Jersey. Pines Music Show, Waretoen, NJ he was famous in Pine Barrens, NJ. He was the author of The Bayman. He was a producer, director, musician and a bayman, Maurice believed in the "Great Spirit"
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Arlene Martin Ridgway. Sons; Robert (Patricia) Gille, Medford, NJ and #2 son Jon Cathy Gille Foreman, Portland, OH. Daughters; Virginia (Patrick) Keller, Middlebourne, WV, Wendy Gille and her fiancé Danny Roush and Amber Ridgway Castle all of Portland, OH. Jennifer (John) Parker, New Martinsville, WV. A brother David Ridgway, NC. Sisters; Judith Ridgway Steffa and Kathy (Bob) Edwards all of NC, and others. Ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
There will be no viewing or service.

I read the "The Bayman" today to learn the ways of his days. To
plan my next voyage into the closed sea of Barnegat.
Merce, you left us too soon;
Left here too soon...
For the Wetlands now are Public Parks,
And Oyster Creek has been closed down for two years,
And the clams still flutter when
You grab them from the mud

Merce's book has recently "discovered me" . It has brought me joy and wonderful memories of claming on the bay in the early 70s with my family. We also enjoyed the music at Peich's camp ground. Thank you Merce for writing an wonderful memoir of your life on Barnegat Bay that has touched my heart. What a kind and blessed spirit he was.
