Michael Ballas Obituary
AGE: 68 • Bound Brook
Michael E. Ballas, 68, died Friday, March 4, 2016, at home with his family by his side. Born in Plainfield, he was the son of Spiros and Agathi (Benetatos) Ballas. Mike had been a longtime resident of Bound Brook. He worked as a line operator at Reckitt Benkiser in Belle Meade for 25 years, before retiring in 2013. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara; their beloved children, Spiro Ballas, and his wife Emily, of Lovettsville, VA., Nick Ballas of Montgomery; and Katie Bennett and her husband, Jeremy of Bridgewater; his cherished grandchildren, Michael, Grace, and Emma Ballas, and Alexandra Bennett; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will begin 9:45 A.M., Wednesday, March 9, 2016, followed by a 10:30 A.M. funeral service at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1101 River Road, Piscataway, 08854. Burial will be at Bound Brook Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Hagan - Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook.
The Ballas family is grateful for the support received from Compassionate Care Hospice in Branchburg. Their care and support was truly appreciated.

Mike was such a creative person. He had a wit that was simply amazing ( a gift to gab), a quality that I loved. He was a co-worker with me for over 10 years.

Michael dear - you were such fun (really quite a tease) ! We grew up together, side by side, on River Road, you and my brother, Johnny Page, always were together . How he loved you then and still does now. I think of you both as silly enemies while I adored your big sisters! And wished only to be like the Ballas girls.
Remember your Uncle Jerry out in the greenhouse. He spoke very little English but always managed to magically slip us a 50cennt piece. The best of times.
And those terapidos (Sp???" ) your Mom would make and Johnny stole! I never could spell it but I sure learned how to make them for his birthdays!
And then there was the last time I saw you. Ironically it was at my mother's funeral. You gave me a big hug and said "you look just like your Mother". And you had become such a handsome man.
So dear boy, rest well and know what a wonderful life we all shared. How proud you must be of that lovely wife, those children and even grands. You will always be a big part of all our lives. Just remember what a happy one it was!!

I have known Michael since kindergarten at Holmes Marshall School in Piscataway. He was always a pleasant and friendly guy. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Our Greek youth had many a good times with Michael. We will all always remember him & his great smile. Sorry for the families huge loss.
