Michael Dennis Cullis

Michael Dennis Cullis finished his voyage of life on Friday, October 6. His father, then Captain (retired Colonel) Robert E. Cullis, fell in love with his mother, Janet Yelderman, an army nurse, while he was hospitalized during the war. Michael was born the following year on February 4, 1944 at Fort Benning, Georgia.

His early childhood was that of an army brat, living in Salzburg, Brussels, and then Nuremberg as an infant in his spectating mother's arms, while his father served at the historic trials. The balance of his early life was spent on infantry army bases such as Fort Devens, Fort Leavenworth, back to Fort Benning, and then on to Fort Dix. It was at Fort Dix, while in high school, that he met the love of his life, Susan Bradley. Michael went on to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at King's Point, NY and graduated in 1966. He and Susan were married in 1967 and started a family soon afterwards, while Michael attended Wharton Business School. Michael went on to work for companies like Proctor and Gamble and Great Waters of France before opening his family bookstore, Little Professor, in Middletown, NJ. After the store closed, Michael continued to enjoy watching the Yankees, connecting with friends, and being with his family. He is survived by Susan, his wife of over 50 years; his sons Michael and Stephen; his daughters Kristen and Sarah; six adoring grandchildren; and his sister, Kathleen. He is remembered for his fortitude in the face of challenges, intense loyalty, and adventurous spirit.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 3-5 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown.
