Patrick Charmel Obituary

Patrick Charmel

Toms River

Patrick Charmel, of Toms River, passed away on December 16, 2011 at home. He was born in East Kingston, N.Y. and moved to Bayonne as a young child. Patrick married and moved to Carteret where he and his family lived for eighteen years and finally moved to Toms River. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and considered it a privilege to serve. He later went to work for the U. S. Government and worked for 32 years until his retirement in 1981. Patrick worked as a helicopter maintenance supervisor at Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, N.Y. and later as General Foreman helicopter maintenance at U.S. Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, N.J. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Toms River and a life member of A. Jay Weeks VFW Post 6063 in Toms River.

Patrick was an avid gardener and could make anything grow. He shared his prize tomatoes with many friends and neighbors. Patrick enjoyed the simple pleasures like spending quiet summer afternoons by the water in Island Heights and having coffee with his friends at Fast Break while he was still healthy enough to do so. He was able to fix anything and his advice will be sadly missed.

Patrick is survived by his wife Dorothy; and his children, Pam, Patrick and Gary; and his grandson Patrick of whom he was so proud.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec 19, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St. Toms River. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in Toms River. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1738 Route 37 East, P.O. Box 1906, Toms River, NJ 08753 in Patrick's memory.
