Peter Abbate, 91, entered eternal life on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Bridgeway Care Center in Bridgewater. Born in Young County, PA, son of the late Vincent and Louise (Holman) Abbate, he resided in Edison for many years before settling to Manville in 1990. Peter was honorably discharged from the United States Army having faithfully served his country during World War II. He retired as a maintenance worker from Staufer Chemical Company in Edison after 42 years of dedicated employment. Peter loved woodworking and lived for taking care of his garden always so proud to share the fruits of his labor with others.

Besides his parents, Peter was also predeceased by his dear siblings, Anne De Masi, Evelyn Morgante, and James Abbate. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 69 years, Dorothy J. (Bur) Abbate with whom he joined hands in marriage on December 16, 1944; loving children, son, Peter G. Abbate of Bedminster and daughter, Elaine Smith and her husband Thomas of Galloway; dear brother, Ted Abbate of Colorado. Peter will be deeply missed by his adored granddaughter, Rebecca Smith.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Tuesday, May 27 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 28 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 28 at the funeral home with a religious service taking place during the morning visitation. Peter will be laid to rest at Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway.
