The Starners of Summerville, NJ, were a major part of my growing up years. Uncle Raymond's frequent visits, often during his sales trips in the nearby Pocono Mts. and environs, were made into major events by the magnificent prayers he improvised at the Starner's large, unique, and always well attended dining table in the Starner homestead in our beloved Bethlehem, PA, the Christmas City. Holiday visits there by Uncle Raymond, his loving wife, Aunt Mildred, often with their blessed Miriam and Sterling in tow, were special events to be remembered forever. Parts of childhood summers I spent in the Starner home in Summerville were for this then budding writer like adventures to the Land of Oz because I enjoyed a freedom of spirit there that perhaps only a fatherless child can truly comprehend. I guess I am the one that got away, the black sheep in homebound clan. Nevertheless, a yellowing black and white, framed snapshot photograph of Grandpa George Wellington, Sr. and Grandma Hannah Starner placed in my studio where I can always see it is a steady and constant reminder of long ago days I have learned to remember and respect more than the best of everything I have experienced in the arts. Cousin Sterling is a very important part of those memories. With undying love, Richard Benter, the only child of Sterling's Aunt Helen Mae Starner Benter Fritzsche.
