Solomon Shapiro Obituary
AGE: 93 • Skillman
Solomon Shapiro, DDS "Uncle Sol", Age 93, died Friday, January 27, 2012 at the University Medical Center at Princeton. Born February 8, 1918 in New York City, Dr. Shapiro was a resident of Highland Park, Westfield, West Point Island and Monroe Township prior to moving to Stonebridge at Montgomery in Skillman, NJ four year ago. He grew up in Dover, NJ and attended the University of Pennsylvania undergraduate and graduate programs and served in the U.S. Army. His dental practice in New Brunswick, NJ served the community for 50 years. Dr. Shapiro was loved by the numerous patients he cared for and was affectionately known as "Uncle Sol". He received such joy from sharing his life with his family and friends. Dr. Shapiro shared his life with his first wife the late Phyllis Ruben and secondly the late Grace Howley.
He is survived by his brother Henry, three children Jeff, Robert and Jan, four step children Bartley, Peter, Jean, Barbara and his "Buddy" and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends. His sharp wit, love of living well, amazing memory and memories, and generosity of spirit will be missed.

Uncle Sol was our family dentist for years and we all loved him. Our families got close over the years and my father and he became friends. He took us on his cabin cruiser one day down the shore. One of my fondest memories was when I was a little kid and had no cavities he gave me 2 chocolate cookies as a reward - who ever heard of receiving cookies at the dentist? Later on as I was older he used to shake my hand and try to crush it in a little test of strength play time. I went to him until he retired, probably 30 years. Uncle Sol always puts a smile on my face.
