AGE: 87 WHITEHOUSE STATION
Violet E. Wachendorf, 87, of Whitehouse Station, died Thursday, (Sept. 25, 2008) at the Bridgeway Care Center in Bridgewater. Born in North Bergen, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Edna Laugel. Violet was a longtime resident of Whitehouse Station, having lived there since 1940.
Violet received her bachelor's degree from Jersey City State Teachers College and a master's degree in human development from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She was a teacher in the Palisades Park and Somerville Public School systems. She received numerous awards for teaching throughout her career.
Violet was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station. She enjoyed history and gardening and had a passion for music. She loved to play piano and was able to perform for the entertainment of others until two weeks ago. Violet was active in many civic organizations in the Hunterdon County area as well as many church activities.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Wachendorf, who died in 2007 and her sister, Haroldine Eckert.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Joan and her husband, Daniel Murphy; her two sons, Robert G. and his wife, Nancy J. Barnes Wachendorf and Thomas J. Wachendorf. She is also survived by her sister, Pan Schwab, her grandson, Robert Todd and two great-grandchildren, Aubrianna and Alexa.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Whitehouse Station. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, September 28, 2008, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway, Whitehouse.
