Carl Franklin Obituary

Carl E. Franklin, 83, of Hoopeston, died at 1 a.m. on July 5, 2010 at Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital.
Carl was born on May 4, 1927 in Traverse City, Mich., a son of Winsor and Sadie Burnham Franklin. He married Mary Ann Hoag on Sept. 8, 1950 in Traverse City. She died on Nov. 14, 2001.
Carl is survived by two daughters; Jan (Larry) German, of Hoopeston, and Shelly Henson, of Danville; a brother Jim (Joyce) Franklin, of Traverse City, Mich.; two grandchildren, Andrew Franklin German and Elizabeth Anne German, both of Bloomington, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and eight sisters.
Carl worked at Montgomery Ward, FMC, was a partner and manager for Shur-Fit and worked for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring in October 1992.
Carl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hoopeston.
He was a Past Commander of the Hoopeston American Legion and Past President of the Lions Club.
Carl was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce, delivered Meals-on-Wheels and was a multi-gallon blood donor with the Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Carl enjoyed Euchre, golf and reading.
According to his wishes, Carl will be cremated. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on July 12 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hoopeston with Rev. Ann Schwartz officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
The Brown-Alkire Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

I was so sorry to hear that Mr. Franklin has passed away. It hurts to lose someone that we care about no matter what the circumstances may be. Take comfort knowing that he is no longer suffering and no longer in pain. Read John 5:28, 29. Hold on to the hope that God gives. I offer my condolences to you all.
