Samuel Wise Obituary

Samuel Russell Wise Jr., 65, of Cadiz, Kentucky and formerly of Hoopeston, passed away at 3 a.m. May 1, 2013 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Sam was born March 25, 1948 in Danville; he was the son of Samuel R. and Mary Jewell (Gossett) Wise Sr. Sam married Ann Patterson on Jan. 31, 1969 in Hoopeston. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Jewell, of Hoopeston; two sons: Samuel (Maria) Wise III, of Algonquin, and Jeffrey Wise, of Hoopeston; six grandchildren: Brooke, Alec, Jaida, Nikolas, Zander and Vincie Wise; three sisters: Shiela Pate, of Danville, Starna (John) Dudley, of Westville, and Seresa (Pat) Puhr, of Clarksville, Tenn.; one brother, Shawon (Nora) Wise, of Cissna Park, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, Steven Wise, one grandson, Carter Wise, and one nephew, Robert Puhr.
Sam was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Hoopeston.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of the American Legion. He was a 13 year employee of Berkeley Davis in Danville and an 18 year employee of Johnson Controls, Inc., in Vincennes, Ind., and Cadiz. He was a graduate of Hoopeston High School, Danville Junior College and attended Illinois State University.
Sam's hobbies were target shooting and being the caretaker for a colony of feral cats and kittens. He loved his home and family and was a devoted grandfather; loved his dog (Barkley), and enjoyed playing Euchre. He was proud to be a Hoopeston Cornjerker.
Services for Mr. Wise will be held at Noon on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Brown-Alkire Funeral Home, 309 E. Washington St. in Hoopeston. The Rev. Rick Branaman will officiate. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery at Hoopeston, with Military Rites accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion and VFW Posts. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. until Noon on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Children's Miracle Network of Illinois, C/O Children's Hospital of Illinois, 530 North East Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL 61637.

Our sympathies to his family. I was trying to locate Sam Wise that was stationed at Oscoda Michigan with me in 1970-1971 time when I found this. Please excuse if this is not him. My E Mail is [email protected] if this the Sam and Ann we knew back then. Thank you and again our sympathies.

Sammy was my cousin and even though I haven't seen him in years his picture looks like just how I remember him but older. I have fond memory of my Mom Ruby, Jewell's sister Sammy's Mom and the rest of the Wise family and our visits with them back in the 60's. Rest in peace Sammy your with God and all of our loved one's
