Dennis Sowards Obituary

CROWN CITY — Dennis Roy Sowards, 60, of Crown City, Ohio, died Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.

He was born May 8, 1957 in Sandusky, Ohio, a son of the late Marilyn JoAnn Call Davis and Ron Davis. A sister, Cindy Jo Sowards and maternal grandparents, Orland and Hazel Taylor also preceded him in death.

Dennis attended Point Pleasant High School until he started working on tow boats as a deck hand at age 17. He worked at the Ohio River Company, M&G Transport, and Campbell Transportation eventually becoming an engineer in the engine room.

Survivors include two sons, Nathan Robert Sowards (Lindsay Baldwin) of Huntington, W.Va. and Dennis Roy Sowards, II, (Miranda Whittington) of Southside, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Danielle Rae Sowards, Kenadie Grace Sowards, and Jaden Grace Whittington, all of Southside; the mother of his children, Nannette Sowards of Southside; three brothers, Tony Sowards (Lilly) of Bidwell, Ohio, Gene Sowards and Rusty Davis, both of Crown City; and several nieces and nephews.

Chapman's Mortuary is assisting the family with cremation. According to his wishes, there will be no public service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapmans-mortuary.com.

my deepest regrets and heartfelt sympathys i only knew dennis till our early years but it was easy to know he was the best the family raised RIP brother
