Ryan "Luke" Garcy

1995 - 2025

Ryan "Luke" Garcy, age 30, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away on September 4, 2025. Born on March 9, 1995, in Silver Spring, Maryland, Luke grew up in Okemos, Michigan, where he formed lifelong memories with family and friends.

A proud Spartan, Luke graduated from Michigan State University in 2018 with a degree in International Relations. He spent the past year teaching children in Yangzhou, China and loved it. Luke had a gentle heart, creative soul, a wry wit, and an abiding love for animals-especially the naked mole rat, which was his go-to answer in family guessing games during vacation drives.

Luke struggled mightily with mental illness and, despite his determination, did not win that battle. Yet through it all, he was fiercely loved by those around him, and he loved them just as deeply.His family and friends stood by him always, holding space for both his pain and his light.

Luke is survived by his parents, Mary-Joan and Patrick of Cambridge; his siblings, Megan (Chris), Nick (Ashlee), and Sean (Virginia); his grandmothers Joan Farrar and Carol Garcy; his aunts and uncles, Betsy/Russ, Sandra/Matt, Andi/Matt, Nita/Tim, Diana/Chris, and Carol, as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Luke truly loved them all, and they loved him. His loss leaves a profound void in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

The circumstances of Luke's death are heartbreaking, but he is now at peace. His family finds comfort in knowing he is free from torment and pain.
