Robert "Bob" O'Bara

1941 - 2023

Robert "Bob" James O'Bara slipped away to be with Jesus on June 13, 2023 at the age of 81.

Bob was born in Baltimore, MD on August 25, 1941, the son of the late Sophie and John O'Bara. He grew up in Sparrows Point on Ruth Avenue, just houses away from his future wife's grandmother's home. Bob married the love of his life on January 21, 1961. He went to Sparrows Point High School and served in the U.S. Navy for five years. In 1969 he bought a bar in Tolchester, realizing a lifelong dream of being a business owner. Bob also became one of the original salesmen with the new food service company H & M Wagner and sons to get goods and services delivered to the food service industry all over the eastern shore of Maryland and Delaware., which he continued as his profession until his retirement.

Bob enjoyed watching sports, and was a huge fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles, as well as the University of Maryland teams. He will be remembered as a sentimental jokester, who was charismatic right until the very end.

He was preceded in death by brothers: John O'Bara, Edward O'Bara, Thomas O'Bara; sisters, Bertha Komornik and Helen "Hunsey" Daddezio; and a great-grandson, Chase McQuaid.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary O'Bara; his daughters, Rebecca Daniels (David) and Maria O'Bara (Ashley); sister, Celia Rogers; four grandchildren: Jen, Katie, Ryan, and Austin; three great-grandchildren: JJ, Rory, and Max; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Monday, June 26 at 1:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown. A visitation for family and friends to gather will be held two hours prior, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at the funeral home.
