Timothy Knapp Obituary
Sergeant Timothy Shawn Knapp, known to many as Timmy, was born December 14, 1963, in Oceanside, New York, and passed away on August 8, 2025, at the age of 61. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, coach, and friend whose warmth, dedication, and sense of humor touched countless lives.
Timmy was the son of Robert A. Knapp Sr. and Zoa Ann Porter Beasley, and the stepson of Kenneth R. Beasley and Howard "Buddy" Redman Jr. He shared a close bond with his brother, Robert Knapp Jr. (Jeanette Knapp). His greatest joy came from being a father to his three children: Ashley Knapp (Mike Plummer); Zachary Knapp (Francesca Knapp); and Cameron Knapp. Timmy was also a proud grandfather to MJ and Ella, who brought endless joy to his life. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart. Of all the roles he held in life, his most cherished title was "Dad."
Following completing his associates degree, Timmy dedicated much of his life to serving his community through his career in law enforcement with the Kent County Sheriff's Office for 20 years, where he served with honor and integrity, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was part of the county's first-ever drug task force in the late 1980s and early 1990s and later became the first school resource officer for Kent County High School. He considered his brothers in blue part of his family and was deeply grateful for their constant love and support.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Timmy found great joy in coaching football at Kent County High School, beginning in 1988. He was part of the coaching staff for the Trojans' state championship seasons in 1989 and 1990, and for the team's second-place finish in the state of Maryland. Tim was also a Pop Warner football coach for his son Cameron's team, creating cherished memories both on and off the field. His dedication to the players went far beyond the field-he mentored, encouraged, and believed in every student he worked with. Tim coined a phrase for his players, "On the hop," that lives on to this day.
Tim was known for his big smile, a smile that could light up any room. He would sing at the top of his lungs to all songs-whether he knew the words or not. His love of life was contagious, and he brought laughter and light wherever he went.
Whether on the football field, in the halls of the high school, or serving the community, Timmy lived with purpose and left a legacy of service, leadership, and love. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former players, and the community he served so well.
A celebration of Timmy's life will be held Thursday August 21, 2025, at 11 am at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown, MD where there will be a time to share a brief story or memory. A reception will follow at the Chestertown Elk's Lodge 2474, at 12:30, 8631 Bell Rose Lane Chestertown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America at this address: Huntington's Disease Society of America 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 1402 New York, NY 10018.
