Harry Pryor Obituary

Harry "Bob" Robert Pryor, 82, of Stevensville, MD, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 19, 2025.

Bob was born in Baltimore, MD on October 28, 1942, the son of Russell Lee Pryor, Sr. and Rhoda Elsie (Jahnigen) Pryor. Bob attended Arundel High School, and Catonsville Community College. He married the love of his life, Mary Kathleen, on February 8, 1964.

Bob's life was dedicated to the fire service as both a volunteer and career firefighter. He volunteered at Elkridge and Linthicum Heights Volunteer Fire Stations for eight years before becoming a professional firefighter. Over the course of his 30-year career in the Baltimore County Fire Department, he achieved the rank of Battalion Chief. Upon moving to Stevensville, MD, he volunteered at United Communities Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years in a variety of roles up until his death. Bob was extremely proud to be inducted into the Kent & Queen Anne's Fire, EMS, and Rescue Association's Hall of Fame in 2017.

After his retirement, Bob was involved in the community. He worked at Queenstown Harbor Golf Course for ten years. He was a lifetime member at the Kent Island Elks Lodge 2576 and a lifetime auxiliary member at the Grasonville VFW 7464. In addition, he served on the Queen Anne's County Liquor Board for several years.

Bob loved his family more than anything. He treasured his time with family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, and crabbing. He and his wife loved to travel. Cruises were their favorite way to see the world. Some of their favorite trips were visiting Alaska, the Panama Canal, Nova Scotia, Canada, and the Caribbean. Later in life, they were content riding down to the dock in their golf cart or simply sitting in the rose garden enjoying each other's company.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Kathleen (nee Winterson) Pryor; daughter, Elaine Marie O'Neal (Doug); son, Steven Michael Pryor (Kobe); grandsons Austin Robert Pryor (Kayla), Connor Douglas O'Neal (Jacqueline), Evan William O'Neal, and Garrett Michael Pryor (Shauna); and great grandchildren Callan Michael Pryor and Abigail May O'Neal. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Charles Edward Pryor (Rosemary) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Russell Lee Pryor, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD where friends and family may visit from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in memory of Bob to either United Communities Volunteer Fire Department (9406 Romancoke Road Stevensville, MD 21666) or Compass Hospice (160 Courevall Drive Centreville, MD 21617).
