Dia Hurd Obituary

Dia Hurd
August 7, 1952 - August 2, 2024
Dia Hurd, 71, passed peacefully on August 2, 2024 in Fort Worth, TX after lengthy battles with several chronic illnesses. She was born in Anchorage, AK on August 7, 1952 and spent much of her childhood in southern California, ultimately graduating from Palos Verdes High School (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) in 1970. Dia moved to Portland, OR as a young adult where she met Chris Hurd while both were working at the Corps of Engineers. They married in 1977 and had twins, Owen and Emily, in 1984. In 1987, Dia, Chris, and their children moved to Sierra Vista, AZ where they enjoyed living and raising the family. During that time, Dia returned to college and received a BS in Microbiology from the University of Arizona in 2000. Dia and Chris retired to San Luis Obispo, CA in 2007 and remained there until early 2024 when health challenges necessitated moving closer to their son Owen in Fort Worth, TX.
Dia was a kind, loving soul who poured her heart and life into her friends and family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, and mother who had a passion and talent for helping others, especially those in most need. A two-time cancer survivor, Dia possessed extraordinary faith and inner strength that drove her life and inspired all around her. Dia enjoyed cooking, socializing with friends, listening to music, and volunteering. She regularly volunteered at her local churches in Sierra Vista and San Luis Obispo and frequently supported elderly members of those communities in various capacities, notably at the Life Care Center of Sierra Vista for many years. Dia was selfless with her time and love, was quick to befriend anyone and could instantly make someone feel comfortable and loved. Her unconditional, boundless love is greatly missed by all her family and friends and will live on through her surviving family.
Dia is survived by Chris, her husband of 47 years; sister, Nancy Newman of Thousand Oaks, CA; brother, Brant Noziska of San Diego, CA; daughter, Emily Lent and husband, Jonathan Lent of Prineville, OR; son, Owen Hurd and wife, Jennifer Hurd of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren, Lila and Callan Lent and Charles and Beverly Hurd, and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 800 Taylor Drive, in Sierra Vista, AZ where Dia was a longtime parishioner and volunteer. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

So sorry to see this, I remember Dia from Portland, then surprised when she walked into my husband´s room at Life Care Center as a patient advocate. Very nice lady, I´m so very sorry for her family´s loss.

Dia was always such a sweet lady! A great Mom and a great helper at Village Meadows schools! She was so cute and energetic and was always helping the teachers at school! May God Bless her husband and family and comfort them.

My deepest condolences to the family of Dia Hurd. Her son, Owen, was my student in Kindergarten. Dia made a lasting impression on me with her love of her twins & her support of our school system. She was kind & a great volunteer in the classroom. Susan Becque
