Paul Kays Obituary

Paul Kays, Jr.
February 23, 1943 - November 12, 2024
Paul Kays, Jr., 81 of Whetstone, AZ, died unexpectedly on November 12, 2024, in Whetstone.
Born February 23, 1943, in Indianapolis. Although never married, he raised his son from infancy with great devotion. His devotion to his family is a great loss, often acting as the conduit keeping everyone informed and connected. He proudly served in the 508th Airborne Infantry as a 1st Class Gunner, an Expert Marksman, and a Parachutist.
Following his military service, Paul transitioned to a civilian career, working as a Contractor for the military and later as an Exhibit Specialist for the Bureau of Land Management. In this role, he was instrumental in securing funding for the preservation of the Empire Ranch House in Pima County, Arizona. His love for community led him to serve as Secretary of the Coolidge City Council during his years in Coolidge, Arizona.
His personal hobbies included raising and racing horses throughout Southern Arizona, woodworking, jewelry crafting, and oil painting, each of which reflected his meticulous attention to detail and his profound love for nature.
He is survived by his son, Paul Michael Kays of Whetstone; his brother, Joe Kays of Indianapolis; and was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Kays, Sr. and Virgia Griffith Kays; sisters, Wilma Jean Parks, Iva Mae Barnum, Janice Carol Clearwater and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held Friday, November 22, at Hatfield Funeral Home in Sierra Vista at 8 a.m., followed by a service at 10 a.m., and burial at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, honoring Paul's legacy of service and commitment.

My condolences to his son and the rest of his family. I just came upon Paul's obituary. I was shocked. I worked with Paul on Fort Huachuca in the Carpenter shop. So sorry for your loss. God bless all his surviving family.
