Betty Edlen Obituary

Betty Rose Edlen, 79, of Virginia and formerly of Elk City, Okla., and Bryan, Texas, died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born August 5, 1931, in Virginia, the daughter of Claude Cooper and Grace Walbert Cooper Noe. She was married to George Petefish from 1950 to 1976. She later married Harold Edlen in 1977 and he survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Debbie Petefish Cabrera (companion, David) of Virginia; five step children; several step grandchildren; a brother, Gary Noe (wife, Juanita) of Beardstown; three sisters, Phyllis Neece (husband, Tracy) of Holly Lake, Texas, Marilyn McLin (husband, Bill) of Wilmington, and Peggy Sim (husband, Art) of Warner Robbins, Ga.; several nieces and nephews; and a great-aunt, Hazel Carls of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Ada and Houston Walbert, in whose home she was raised; a brother, Merle Noe; and a sister, Dorothy Lyons.
A graduate of Virginia High School, Mrs. Edlen worked as a beautician in the Virginia area for several years and later worked with her husband at SoHiGro and Big E Fertilizer of Virginia. While residing in Texas, she was a salesclerk for Montgomery Ward and Sears. She was formerly active in Cass County Home Extension, Cass County Democratic Women, and as a volunteer for the American Heart Association.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 23, at First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. The family will meet friends at the church following the services. Memorial gifts are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home of Virginia is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.buchanancody.com.
