Danny Ray Krueger, 57, of Winchester, passed away Sunday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2011, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

He was born Feb. 21, 1953, the son the late Henry and Elizabeth "Betsey" Krueger. He married Claudia Neff Krueger on March 30, 1971.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia at home; two daughters, Jean Ann (David) Gregory of Winchester and Crystal (Jason) Leverich of Pittsfield; and one granddaughter, Makayla Leverich. Also surviving are two brothers, John (Mary Jane) Krueger of Monee and Brad (Michele) Krueger of Winchester.

Danny was employed by the Secretary of State for 19 years and Illinois Department of Transportation for 10 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bluffs and the Winchester American Legion Post 442. He also served as the president of the Scott County Young Republicans and was a Republican Party County Chairman from 1999 through 2004, and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He enjoyed many hobbies through the years such as tractor pulling, draft horses, boating, and antique tractors. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be at Winchester City Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the SIU Simmons Cancer Institute Oncology Unit. Claudia, John and Brad, I was shocked to hear of Danny's passing. I have good childhood memories and think of us cousins living forever. Mom shared so many of Dan's adventures with us, it never really felt like we lived half a continent away. I send heartfelt condolences to all of you.

I am visiting Winchester in April with Aunt Shirley (Daddy's sister-in-law) and look forward to a good visit. Stay well and know your cousins in Oregon are thinking of you--keeping you close to our hearts.

Claudia and Family, I was so shocked and sorry for Danny's passing. I never met a more happy or jovial man or a man that loved his home or family. I know I am glad He came into my life. Claudia - Our hearts are very heavy with the sad news of Danny's passing. April and I had a good laugh, and cry, over some of the crazy stories and jokes he pulled on us and we on him over the years of treating him in that tiny chemo room. Danny was always smiling, even when we knew he didn't feel good. He always put a smile on my face too when he came in, no matter how bad my day was going. It was a honor to know him and care for him. I will never forget him.
