Evelyn Powers Obituary

Evelyn Irene Powers, 100, of Jacksonville, IL passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing & Rehab. She was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Winchester, the daughter of William and Anna (Osborne) Powers. She married Ralph Powers, and he preceded her in death. She is survived by Judy (Thomas) Lair of Murrayville, her niece; Judy’s children whom Evelyn thought of as grandchildren, Gabrielle (Thomas) Gladhill and Allison (Ryan) Lance; Judy’s grandchildren that Evelyn considered great grandchildren, Parker and Cooper Gladhill; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four brothers and four sisters, Harry Wisdom, Harold Wisdom, Clarence Wisdom, Chester Wilson, Marie Smith, Glenna Frasier, Annabelle Wisdom, and Freda Roberts. Mrs. Powers grew up in Winchester and was a graduate of Winchester High School. She worked at Capitol Records for 25 years, and at Gross Veterinary Clinic where she was a Vet Tech Assistant for 25 years. Evelyn was a big animal lover and had many pets over the years, but her cats, Blaise and Sammy, and her dog, Tramp, were her most treasured. A private service will be held with burial at Jacksonville Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Scott County Dog Rescue Squad or Morgan County Animal Control. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting the family. Condolences may be left at buchanancody.com.
