Glen Carls Obituary

Glen A. Carls
Jacksonville - Glen Alvin Carls, 83, of Jacksonville, passed away on November 10, 2024, at Prairie Village in Jacksonville. Glen was born on September 25, 1941, in Beardstown, the son of Arthur and Myrtle Hendricker Carls. He graduated in 1959 from Beardstown High School, graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and then received his Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Michigan.
Glen moved to Buffalo, New York where he worked as a chemist for FMC. He moved to Jacksonville after retiring and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Glen enjoyed researching many things, especially scientific subjects. He was a collector of many things: seashells, stamps, and coins. But his favorite was Indian artifacts, as he had an impressive collection of arrowheads. He was very involved in the Central States Archaeological Society and Prehistoric American-GIRS.
Glen was preceded in death by one brother, David Carls, and one sister, Esther Dodgen. He is survived by one sister, Ruth (John) Werries of Chapin, niece Leesa (Dave) Carls of Marco Island, Florida, nephews Steve (Susan) Carls, Drew (Jenny) Carls, and Marc (Tina) Carls, all of Arenzville, Dan (Jennie) Werries of Beaverton, Oregon, Dean Werries of Chapin and Curt (Amanda) Werries of Quincy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Beardstown City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to Centenary United Methodist Church. The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left online at www.airsman-hires.com.
