Steven Bergschneider Obituary
Jacksonville - Steven Verne "Berky" Bergschneider, 69 of Jacksonville passed away Friday October 24, 2025 in Jacksonville. He was born November 16, 1955 in Alexander the son of Verne and Mary Constance Ryan Bergschneider.
Steve was a graduate of Routt Catholic High School and Quincy Tech. He worked as small engine mechanic, and was known as a" wizard" with small engines, retiring in 2020 from Beard Implement in Arenzville. He loved the "Lake Life" and was a member of the Pine Point Campers Club, he loved his Harley, his Natty and his Captain & Coke and was a member of the Elks where he enjoyed playing Gin Rummy. He was also a member of the Moose and devoted patron at the American Legion. Steve loved and was loved and cherished by so many friends who were like his family. He held many charities close to his heart, including Camp Courage, where he volunteered his time and pontoon boat every summer for boat rides. He was first in line to volunteer his time in support of local events.
Surviving is his son Cassidy (wife Sarah) Dober of Carrollton, grandchildren Seth Dober, Raileigh Clayton, sister Therese Schultz of Kankakee, brothers Greg (Anna) Bergschneider of Jacksonville, Danny (Jenna) Bergschneider of Lake Carroll and his special long time friend Rocky of Jacksonville. Also surviving is his step mother Roberta Bergschneider Lindell of Jacksonville and brother in law Dennis Stapleton of Jacksonville.
Preceding him in death were his father Verne Bergschneider, mother Connie (Fred) Splain, brothers Joseph and Timothy Bergschneider, sister Martha Stapleton, and brother-in-law Rich Schultz.
The family invites anyone and everyone who would like to join in celebrating Steve's legacy of laughter on Saturday November 1, 2025 at the Jacksonville American Legion, 903 W. Superior beginning at 1 p.m. Memorials in his name can be made to Camp Courage, PAWS, Elks Children's Care Christmas Auction.
The Williamson-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Jacksonville is assisting the family.
