Harold Dompier Obituary

Townshend, VT- Harold Boynton Dompier, 89, of Williams Street, died Monday morning, December 2, 2024 at Grace Cottage Hospital following a period of failing health. Harold was born in Hinsdale on October 12, 1935, the son of Stanley and Elizabeth (Fitch) Dompier. He was raised in Brattleboro attending public schools and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School, Class of 1954. He went on to attend Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center where he received his Associates Degree in Agricultural management. He later served in the Vermont Army National Guard. Harold had been employed by Hubbard Farms based in Walpole and help manage the farm's Westmoreland location where he and his wife resided up until his retirement. He retired from Hubbard Farms as a supervisor following 30 years of faithful and dedicated service. For several years he worked part-time for Fleming Oil as a clerk at their Western Avenue convenience store location. He also was a currier driver for the Auto Mall Dealership for several years. He took a great interest in his community and local politics and was a former member of the Brattleboro Select Board. For many years Harold attended First Congregational Church in West Brattleboro. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed snowmobiling, kept a large vegetable garden each summer and was active in the Keene Men's Softball league assisting with the scheduling and management of the Keene League. Harold also enjoyed meeting up with his friends, most mornings at Brugger's Bagel Shop on upper Canal Street. On May 30, 1959 at the Springfield, VT Baptist Church he was married to Carolyn Dopp who survives. Besides his faithful and devoted wife of 65 years, he leaves one brother, Donald Dompier of Brattleboro, a sister, Phyllis Baker of Milford, NH, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside committal services will be conducted Friday morning (12/6) at 10:00 A.M. in the Dompier family lot in Christ Church Cemetery in Algiers. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Rescue Inc., P.O. Box 593, Brattleboro, VT 05302. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Harold, please visit our floral store.

My dear cousin Harold gave me a special gift when I was growing up. He gave me a young heifer calf whom I named May Belle. She was a healthy animal who grew up to be part of my dad's herd. I was always grateful to Harold for such a gift.
