Douglas Smith Obituary

Douglas Paul Smith, 57 years old of Lafayette, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born March 20, 1952 in Lafayette to the late Paul Wilson and Dorothy Marie (Taylor) Smith. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1970 and attended Indiana State University.
On Aug. 12, 1972, he married Mary Margaret (Margie) Wilding in Greenwood, IN; she survives.
He worked as a locksmith for Haley's Lock Safe & Key and previously at Mulhaupts.
He attended St. Boniface Church and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Flat Creek Firing Range. Douglas was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed building models and HO trains, loved American history, and was an expert on the Civil War and Indiana History.
Surviving with his wife are three children, Nathan and Zack Smith, Lafayette, and Becky Smith, Indianapolis; a sister, DiAnn (Jeffrey) Howard, Palisades, Colo.; and three grandchildren; Gavin, Ryan, and Kaylen Smith.
Private Family Service will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society Tippecanoe Co. Relay for Life in memory of Douglas. You may light a candle of hope in remembrance of Douglas by visiting www.fisherloy.com
