James Lunsford Obituary

A prayer service for James Alan Lunsford, 74, will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lemons Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Alvin Petty and the Rev. Dennis Hartley officiating. Services are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Lunsford died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, in Plainview. He was born Dec. 21, 1935, in Fort Worth to James and Lena Jewel Lunsford. He graduated high school in Belo Horzonte, Brazil, and received his bachelor's degree from Wayland Baptist University. He married Martha Dwyer in 1962 at the First Baptist Church chapel in Plainview. He was a retired school teacher and played the piano for The Salvation Army and nursing homes. He was a member of Dare to Believe Ministeries. Survivors include his wife, Martha Lunsford; one son, James Edwin and Amanda Lunsford of Plainview; two sisters, Jane Tidwell of Lamesa and Maura Sanders of Arlington; and four grandchildren. Dear Martha, I am so sorry to learn of the passing of James. Please know of our deepest sympathy and concern for you during this most difficult of times. You have shown such love and compassion for James in all his struggles so now you face yet another challenge in this stressful time of grief. James is at rest and in that there is comfort. Our God is so loving and has shown great kindness to James and I pray our Lord will give you peace and comfort as you journey these next days. Our love and prayers are with you.
