Jan Wampler Obituary

Jan Wampler LUBBOCK - Services for Jan "J" Wampler, 72, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at LakeRidge United Methodist Church in Lubbock with the Rev. Warren Martin and John Burk officiating. Burial will be in Becton Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo. J passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Feb. 14, 1937, in Pampa to the late Pfluger Wampler and Nita Marie (McCall) Wampler Wiese. On Oct. 6, 1955, he married Polly Becton in Becton, Texas. J moved to Lubbock in 1982 from Plainview and was a member of LakeRidge United Methodist Church where he attended the Bible Study Sunday School Class. He served the hard of hearing as a hearing instrument specialist for 34 years. He was a member of the International Hearing Society, the Texas Hearing Aid Association and Academy of Model Aeronautics. J was a founding member of the Life Quest Community Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Kay Wampler in 1960, and a sister, Danale Randolph. Survivors include his wife, Polly of Lubbock; a son and his wife, Carl and Susanne Wampler of Lubbock; a daughter and her husband, Gayle and Blair Willson of Lubbock; and seven grandchildren, Lauren (Willson) and Tyson Snow, Lisa (Willson) and Kyle Burnam, Joshua Willson, Aaron Wampler and Philip Wampler. The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Home in Lorenzo and on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. May Jan rest in peace and my condolences to the family. I grew up in Petersburg and my recollection of Jan is that he was the FIRST person to ever own a car that ran on Butane. I think it was a 53 chevy. He had a tank installed in the trunk. Long time ago.
