John Dorman Obituary

John Dorman LOCKNEY - John Dorman, 74, of Lockney passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, in Lockney. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Lockney with Ricky Carstensen officiating and Harold Abney assisting. Burial will follow in Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney. Family will greet friends from 7-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney. John Alvin Dorman was born Sept. 4, 1935, in the Providence community to Fred Dorman and Margaret (Lloyd) Dorman. He graduated from Lockney High School in 1953. John married Rochelle Rigdon on Sept. 28, 1953 in Lockney. He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1955-57. He was employed by the Lubbock Police Department from 1957-60. He farmed from 1960-85 in Floyd County and later worked for Wal-Mart until his retirement. John was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lions Club, Lockney Young Farmers and the Roping Club. He served on the Lockney ISD School Board and Floyd County Fair Board and was active in the Booster Club. John was also a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge. He loved to fly, collect antiques and tools, but his favorite pastime was watching his grandkids. Mr. Dorman was preceded in death by his father, Fred Dorman; mother, Margaret Dorman Service; and stepfather, Curly Service. Survivors include his wife, Rochelle Dorman; son, Johnny Dorman and wife, Julie; daughter, Sandra Cummings and husband, Zach; grandchildren, Adam and Ashley Cummings, Courtney Cummings, April and Nathan Haile, Cagan Cummings, Amber Dorman; and special family Alisse, David and Chase Smyth; stepbrother, Ken Service and wife Tammy; and numerous nieces. The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Hands of West Texas, Lockney Cemetery Association, David and Pat Frizzell Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Lockney Veterans Memorial.
