R.W. Waller Obituary

R.W. Waller HALE CENTER -- Services for R. W. Waller, 74, of Slaton, Texas and formerly of Hale Center, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, in the First Baptist Church, Hale Center, with Dr. Stacy Conner and Dr. Cleve Kerby officiating. Burial will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, Texas. The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, in the Family Center at Abell Funeral Home, Hale Center. Mr. Waller died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Lubbock to Richard Etzel and Pauline (Burgess) Waller. He grew up at Mayfield, Texas, and as a small child moved to Hale Center with his family. R.W. served in the United States Air Force from 1962 until 1964 and then married Judy Thorne on Nov.13, 1964, in Plainview, Texas. She preceded him in death April 30, 2012. He married Linda (Hail) Conner on Nov. 21, 2012, in Muleshoe, Texas. He owned and operated Wallers Garage from 1973 until he retired in January of 2014. Mr. Waller served on the Hale Center City Council and the Civil Defense. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and had recently moved his membership to the First Baptist Church in Slaton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Etzel Waller, and a brother, Ralph Waller. He is survived by his wife, Linda Conner Waller of Slaton, Texas; four daughters, Tammie Waller Allen, Becky Waller Perkinson, Rhonda Waller and Robin Waller, all of Hale Center; mother, Pauline Waller; and a sister, Judy Logan both of Hale Center; two brothers, Tommy Waller of Charleston, South Carolina, and Jack Waller of Rogers, Arkansas; two stepchildren, Dr. Stacy Conner of Muleshoe, Texas, and Sherri Henly of Lubbock, Texas; 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a work partner that he always considered as a "special son," Ronnie Law of Hale Center, Texas. The family suggests memorials be sent to the South Plains Food Bank, 4612 Locust Ave., Lubbock, Texas 79404.
