Shirley Saiz

Shirley Saiz Funeral services for Shirley Birdsong Saiz, age 68, of Plainview, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Plainview Family Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Doug Yates, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Shirley passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2005, in a Lubbock hospital. Shirley was born Nov. 28, 1936, in Sunny Slope, Ark., to Domer V. and Susie Majors Birdsong. She was raised in Flagstaff, Ariz., and in New Mexico and moved to Plainview in 1972. Shirley owned the Sands and Congress Inn restaurants and worked at M System grocery store, Furr's Cafeteria, Wal-Mart and Days Inn. She was a member of Plainview Family Church of the Nazarene. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Saiz of Plainview; a granddaughter, Shanandowa Trevino of Phoenix, Ariz.; a niece, Genice Pugh of Amarillo; two great-nieces, Carisa Akin of Lubbock and Melanie Ratliff of Clovis, N.M.; two brothers, Robert Birdsong and wife Marsha of Plainview and Sam Birdsong and wife Isabelle of Sho Low, Ariz.; a sister, Maryann Saiz and husband Melton of Fort Sumner, N.M.; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margie Claborn; and a niece, Carlene Ratliff.
