A.b. Howell Obituary

A.B. Howell, Sr.
August 13, 1934 - June 26, 2017
Surfside Beach
Mr. A.B. Howell, Sr., of Surfside Beach passed away on June 26, 2017, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Harold, KY, on August 13, 1934. He grew up in Harold, KY, and later moved to Detroit, MI. In 1954, he enlisted in the Air Force. A.B. retired as a Master Sergeant E7 after 21 years of service in the military. He served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. After retirement from the military, A.B. worked from 1976-2000 with Metropolitan Life Insurance Sales. He also served as a trustee and elder of the Myrtle Beach Church of Christ playing an instrumental role in the building of the past two churches. A.B. was an avid fast/slow pitch softball player who traveled for the Air Force playing in tournaments overseas. A.B. was well known around Myrtle Beach as one of the oldest racquet ball players around town, playing until he was 80 years old. Hunting and fishing were two of his other hobbies throughout his younger years. He enjoyed teaching his son and his grandson where to hunt and fish in Murrells Inlet. His favorite story was to tell you where he caught the most fish…in the mouth. Those who knew him were always ready for his newest joke.
A.B. married his wife Nadine, on September 24, 1955 in Washington, D.C. Together they had three precious children: Beverley Anne Howell Bradford (Frank) of Henderson, TN, Sandra Merry (Keith) of Brentwood, TN, and Archie B. Howell, Jr. (Kitty) of Murrells Inlet, as well as five grandchildren: Levi Taylor Merry (Carlye), Ashley Merry Chapman (Greg), Olivia Bradford Archambault (Adam), Brittany Bradford, and Archie "Bradford" Howell, III. He was also the great grandfather to Ruby Louise Chapman and Everly Nadine Archambault.
A.B. is preceded in death by his wife Nadine and daughter Beverly as well as his parents, Levi Howell and Elizabeth Jones. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Elizabeth Hale, Cecil Howell, and Edgar Howell.
A celebration of A.B. Howell's life will be held at the Myrtle Beach Church of Christ, 38th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, SC on Thursday, June 29, 2017. Visitation will be from 12:00-1:00 PM and the service will be immediately following with Minister Steven K. Guy officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Myrtle Beach Church of Christ Preaching School, 4500 Wild Iris Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

Worked with Mr Howell at Met Life years ago. He made sure I had a bible. I still have it. Such a fine man. Thought the world of him. I have no doubt I will meet him again on the other side. God bless his family.

When Kay and I first moved to Conway, SC, the Myrtle Beach Church was the only one around; up on 44th street. Archie and Nadine welcomed us with open arms and hearts. We had lunch at their airforce base housing. A wonderful and lasting relationship was enjoyed by all of both families. Our sorrow and love is extended to Sandy and "Little Archie". We miss all of you, and know that Archie and Nadine are again together with our Father.
