Bertie Smith Obituary

ALBEMARLE, N.C. | Bertie May Simpson Smith, 90, of Heathwood Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Smith was born May 6, 1913, a daughter of the late Dora Morris Simpson and Walter Brown Simpson.

Bertie May Simpson Smith attended Albemarle Schools. She worked at Wiscassett Mills, was a mother and homemaker. She was member of Oakhurst Baptist Church in Charlotte and West Albemarle Baptist Church in Albemarle.

She and her husband were members of the Carolina Golf Club in Charlotte and Possum Trot Club in Myrtle Beach, where Mrs. Smith was on the Ladies Possum Team.

Mrs. Smith loved and was loved by her husband and best friend "C.J." of sixty-seven years. She loved golfing and during their stay at the beach, played with and made may friends from all over the U. S. She also enjoyed flowers, her yard, crafts, and reading.

Survivors include her husband, Cleavy James "C.J." Smith; daughter and husband, Sylvia and Bill Pigg of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons; Kenneth and Patty Smith of Columbia, S.C., Steve and Cindy Smith of Charlotte, N.C., three grandsons; Billy Pigg and wife Jennine of Statesville, N.C., Chad Smith and wife Heather of Charlotte, N.C., and Chris Beam of Charlotte, N.C., two granddaughters; Sharon Smith Fuller and husband Darren of Huntersville, N.C., Whitney Smith Johnson and husband John of Birmingham, Ala., and two great-grandchildren; Chelsie and Austin Fuller.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle, with Rev. Clay Waters officiating. Entombment will follow for the family only at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, N.C.

Visitation after the funeral service at Hartsell Funeral Home on Monday, Sept. 15.
