Bonita Smith Obituary

September 4, 1927 - November 6, 2007

MYRTLE BEACH | Bonita Small Smith, 80, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at her home surrounded in the love of family.

She was born September 4, 1927 in Horry County, South Carolina, the daughter of George Trenton and Mary Lessie Soles Small. Her husband, Billy Ray Smith; her brother, Elton Small; and her sisters, Delilah Wright, Olema McDowell and Iverene Singleton, all predeceased her.

Bonita was a proud independent lady who was known for her strong maternal leadership. She was a Myrtle Beach High School graduate, a former Miss Myrtle Beach, and one of the first women real estate agents in the Myrtle Beach Area. Some of her best years were spent as a Hotel and Motel owner and operator. Her greatest legacy was as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and her leadership within her family will be greatly missed.

Survivors include a son, Robert Rock Smith and his wife, Donna, of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Mary Trent Smith Prince and her husband, Joey, of Columbia; two granddaughters, Pebbles Smith Stewart and her husband, Jack, and their daughter, Summer Trent, and Marcy Trent Shaffer and her husband, Bob, and their son, Robert Tylor Shaffer; special niece, Cynthia Foley and her husband, Don, of Hope Sound, Fla.; and a special adopted son, Wayne Billings of New Zealand.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2007 at First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, with the Rev. Ken Timmerman officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.
