Douglas Samples Obituary

Surfside Beach, South Carolina - Douglas F. Samples, 68 passed away at his home in Surfside Beach, October 14, 2021.
Doug was born in Glendale, California. He graduated from Chico State University with a degree in Public Administration and The American University in Washington DC with a Master of Public Financial Management. Doug worked for the Department of Navy in Seattle Washington and Washington D.C. When he moved his family to Surfside Beach, SC in 1991, he worked at Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments. After he retired from government service, Doug served as a council member on Surfside Beach Town Council for 10 years until he became Mayor in 2012 for which he served 4 years. He was a loving husband and amazing Dad. He spoiled his family and loved his friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Ron and Brad. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Julie (Surfside Beach) and daughter Katie (Charleston, SC).
A memorial service is planned for Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11:00 am at Surfside United Methodist Church.
