George Anderson Hutto, Jr.

Fort Mill
George Anderson Hutto, Jr., of Fort Mill, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. Born in Cope, South Carolina, on September 8, 1931, he was the son of the late George Anderson Sr. and Sara Shuler Hutto.
He was a 1949 graduate of Fort Mill High School. He graduated from Clemson University in 1953 with a B.S. degree and 1957 with a M.S. degree both in Textile Chemistry.
After graduation from Clemson University in 1953 he served in the United States Army Chemical Corps as a Second Lieutenant. He received an honorable discharge in 1956 as a First Lieutenant.
He began his career as a chemist with Celanese Corporation in Rock Hill and served as Plant Manager and Division Manager with Burlington Industries for 28 years.
George is survived by his wife of 56 years: Joan Connor Hutto; his daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Terry Boyles of Hartsville, SC; son and daughter-in-law George A. (Andy) and Miriam Hutto, III of Fort Mill, SC; and daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Will Cotton of Fort Mill, SC.
He is also survived by 9 grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law Mae and Henderson Guerry of Chapin, SC; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Klugh and Joyce Connor of Plum Branch, SC.
George was an avid gardener, Clemson University supporter and IPTAY representative. He was also a lifelong active member of the United Methodist Church, serving as a lay leader and administrative board member.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 11:00 AM at St. John's United Methodist Church located at 130 Tom Hall Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 1639 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730 or St. John's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1298, Fort Mill, SC 29716.
