Henry Hewitt Obituary

Henry "Phillip" Hewitt
April 17, 1962 - April 14, 2013
Roanoke
Henry "Phillip" Hewitt passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2013. He was born in Charlotte, N.C., on April 17, 1962. He grew up in Myrtle Beach and Socastee, S.C. and graduated from Socastee High School. After school, Phillip was involved in the restaurant business for years. He began his career at the Library Restaurant in Myrtle Beach and from there moved to Virginia, to be chef at the Library Restaurant in Roanoke. Phillip loved the restaurant business and spent many years in that field in Roanoke and Charlotte N.C. He eventually transitioned from that field to assist his employers Jim Body (deceased) and Winter Hodges in running their operations in real estate and retail. He spent most of his adult life working for Jim and Winter and thought of them both as family, as did they of him.
Phillip was involved in running and cycling and had a great love of the outdoors. He was devoted to his beloved dog "Brodie", and for almost twenty years, the two were rarely seen apart. He loved Roanoke for its beauty and for the many friendships he formed there over the years. He was also devoted to his family and was loved for his big heart and generous nature. He leaves behind his mother, Edna Sue Deering of Pageland, S.C.; his father Henry C. Hewitt and wife Bonnie of Tabor City, N.C.; his sister Cindy Baldree and husband Bill of Myrtle Beach; his brother J. David Little and wife Johnna of Pearland, Texas; his brother Toby H. Little and wife Robin of League City, Texas, his brother Andrew C. Hewitt of Myrtle Beach, S.C. in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service to be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel at 318 Church Ave SW, Roanoke, with the Rev. Gene Edmunds officiating. A reception will follow at Cherry Hill and on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Dudley Baptist Church in Pageland S.C.
Memorials may be made to Dudley Baptist Church c/o Phyllis Oliver at 2244 Wade Funderburk Road, Pageland, S.C., 29728.

I'll always remember the days on lake Wylie, tennis before working together at La Bib in Charlotte, our occasional "water" fights in the kitchen after hours, him showing me how to cook things the right way, fun times over the years in Roanoke too. Shocked to see you go-Ernie

May your family be surrounded by much grace and love from The Father. He was so kind even sending cloths for my sons though the miles seperated us. Phillip had a sweet mannerism and funny. I've always considered him a friend though we met through my roomate, Amy.
