James Iseman Obituary

James Marx Iseman
January 4, 1928 - March 28, 2015
Myrtle Beach, SC.
James Marx Iseman Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed peacefully at his home in Myrtle Beach on the morning of March 28, 2015 at the age of 87. He was born on January 4, 1928 in Cheraw, the son of Isaac Iseman, the son of a German immigrant, and Mary Cora Cato, one of a family of 17 from Pageland. His father died when he was 7, and Jim and his mother continued to live in Cheraw where he attended and graduated from Cheraw High School. During the beginning of WWII, he entered basic training for the US Army at Clemson where he studied engineering and Japanese before being stationed in the Philippines for the duration of his service. When he returned stateside, he enrolled and thereafter graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1950 with a degree in accounting and a minor in history.
He met his wife, Elizabeth Rhett Roman, on a blind date, and it was indeed love at first sight. They married on August 20, 1949. Their son Jim, Jr was born in 1951, followed by daughter Anne in 1956, and finally John in 1963. He enjoyed five grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was first and forever a devoted family man and always put his family first, all of whom he loved dearly.
His work began in Rockingham at the Chevrolet dealership which he eventually operated for many years. In the early 1970's, he changed careers and joined the management of Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham where he eventually became the CEO. Jim served on the board of and was elected to several administrative positions in the NC and Southeastern Hospital Associations. Jim was also a member of the ABC Board and held many offices in the First United Methodist Church in Rockingham. During his many years in that town, he was a member of the Jaycees, Civitan Club, and Rotary Club for which he served as President. He joined Post 147 of the American Legion and was a member for 60 years.
After successfully growing and profitably operating Richmond Memorial Hospital, he retired in 1993. He and Lib moved to Myrtle Beach a few years later to be near family and enjoy the coast. They joined First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach where he was an active member with many friends.
Jim was survived by his wife of 65 years, Lib; his children, Jim, Anne, and John; Jim's wife, Dianne; John's wife, Susan; grandchildren, Rhett (and her husband Jeff), Jim III, Robert, Jonathan, and Madison; and one great granddaughter, Audrey. He was a friend to everyone he met. He was a man of faith with a passion for life. His humor, personality, and intelligence permeated in all settings. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a good man.
The family welcomes friends on Monday from 5 to 7, March 30, at McMillan Small Funeral Home, at 910 67th Ave North in Myrtle Beach. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 31 at First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach with the Rev Tom Brittain presiding.
