I served with LTC Fox, during my assignment at Myrtle Beach, SC. I have never known a finer officer and a friend to everyone he knew. I am sorry I did not keep up with him, he was my Supervisor when I was an enlisted assigned to the Flight Safety Section. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. He was the greatest Officer and friend I served with during my career in the Air Force

I was one of the nurses who provided care to Lt. Fox when his POW status was concluded. It was an honor to serve him and the others at Andrews AFB.

April 24, 2013

I was a classmate of his at Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University)
I saw him last at the Macolm Grow Air Force Hospital at Andrews Air Force Base in 1991 where he was receiving treatment from injuries received during captivity. I was working in the Pentagon at the time. He was not aware of the outcome of the first Gulf War nor the strategy that was used to bring about a successful outcome...I had the pleasure of breifing him. May he rest in peace.

I had the honor of serving under the command of LTC Fox with the 23rd TASS at Davis Monthan AFB, Az. LTC Fox was a great person and was quite philosophical after the time he spent as a POW. One of his memorable quotes was "People, who needs em!". I remember LTC Fox talking about his dalmation and he were going to retire to Mrtle Beach and relax. It has been close to 19 years since then but I have not forgotten him. I am saddened to hear of his passing and that the world has lost an Great American.

Thinking of you today. So very glad our paths crossed.

High Flight (an Airman's Ecstasy)

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Jeff was a great friend and coworker, while we assigned to the safety office at Myrtle Beach AFB. He loved to fly the A-10 and crack jokes. He always had a smile on his face and made anyone he was around feel better about themselves. It was a blessing to know him and he will be missed.

For us, Jeff was the best landlord a newly married couple could have. Then, he watched over and entertained our daughter in the church nursery. Finally, he thrilled our daughters at the mall by handing out quarters and dollar bills. He was such a kind, generous person, who has meant so much to our family. I will always remember him fondly.

Words such as "an honor and a priviledge" don't seem to do justice to how blessed I am to have known this man. He brightened up any room he entered, and could brought laughter and joy to just about any occasion. I was shocked and saddened to learn of his untimely death, and wonder who will fill the void this man leaves behind. Bingo fuel for my old friend "Sly."

I miss you buddy. Jeff and I met in a cold cell in Baghdad, huddling together trying to keep each other warm. He always had a quick smile and a clever comment to make no matter how dark things appeared. It was a true privilege to serve with Sly and I treasure the memories of our release. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, we have all lost a true American Patriot.

Lt. Col. Jeff Fox was a wonderful American who served his Nation well both while in the Service and subsequently in his courageous effort to protect those American POWs held by the enemy in the future. His was a powerful voice for adherance to the Geneva Conventions and it was a privilege to have worked with him in this endeavor to protect American service personnel held by the enemy in the future.

Only living a few blocks away from the cemetery, around 10:30 AM this morning, I heard the roar of four Air Force jets passing over my house here in Fall River, MA. It was a fitting tribute to a remarkable and courageous American hero. Although I was only a freshman when he was a senior, he was in my brother's class and I remembered what a terrific guy he was and so well-liked and respected by the entire student body. My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

As an aviator, I envy Jeff's courage and skill operating as a combat pilot flying at low altitude, and maybe sometimes low speed, in the face of nasty enemy fire. As a fellow POW I cherish being associated with Jeff and getting to know you as we decompressed from one hell of a foul fight. Godspeed Jeff. (Jeffrey N. Zaun, Jersey City, New Jersey)
