Kevin Childs Obituary
Conway
Visitation for Rev. Kevin Childs will be held at Conway High School Saturday, July 12 from 4p.m. to 7p.m.
Services for the Rev. Kevin Childs, 54, will be held Sunday, July 13 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Conway High School.
The Rev. Childs died early Thursday morning at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.
Born March 18, 1960 in Conway, he was a son of Bob F. Childs and the late Anne Dusenbury Childs.
The Rev. Childs was a graduate of Conway High School and Wofford College, where he was a member of the football team. He obtained his Master's Degree from Southeastern Theological Seminary, and was working on his doctorate. The Rev. Childs served as pastor of Green Sea Baptist Church, West End Baptist Church in Gaffney and The Rock, which he started in Conway in March of 2004.
The Rev. Childs served as team chaplain for the Conway High School football team and was a football coach at Conway Middle School.
Surviving are his wife, Polly Lee Childs of Conway; two daughters, Hannah Lockaby and her husband Kevin and their children, Gray, Crew and Navy, all of Conway; and Evan Childs of Tampa, Fla.; four sons, Josiah Childs of Charleston, Haddon Childs and his wife Jessi and their soon to be arrival, a daughter, Laura Polly "Lolli" Childs of McBee, and Judson Childs and Ian Childs, both of Conway; and a sister, Karen Smith of Conway.
Memorials may be made in one of three ways in lieu of flowers including giving online to the Childs Family Endowment Fund through The Rock. Give online through gofundme.com/kevinchilds or via cash or check made payable to 'The Childs Family Endowment Fund.' Checks and cash can be dropped in the tithing bucket on Sunday mornings at The Rock or mailed to: The Rock, P.O. Box 375, Conway, S.C. 29528.

My parents (now deceased) met Anne and Bobby Childs in the mid-1950's, and were close friends for decades, particularly in the 60's and 70's. (We moved to Georgetown in 1962 and they commuted to each others' houses to visit.) I knew Kevin and Karen all through our childhoods. I wanted to send a card to Bob Childs, but couldn't verify the mailing address. My thoughts are with all the family members.

Kevin baptized me at West End Baptist Church in 1997. I will always remember his faithfulness to me to help me with my walk in Christ ! He took time to counsel me on my marriage with my husband at the time. I pray for Mrs Polly and the rest of the family!! You will be missed but God has gained a good and faithful servant. Kevin is greatly missed. He inspired and challenged me every time we spoke. He made a huge difference in my life
following my divorce and taught me to forgive myself after I sought Gods forgiveness and to love myself because I was made in Gods image. He helped guide me more towards Christ and less towards myself. Really gonna miss this is brother in Christ. Prayers to all of his family.

I will always love Kevin and his family. When Brian and I decided to get married we didn't want anyone else to marry us but Kevin. We then found out he was called to Conway. But because of the type of person he is he drove up from Conway and went out of his way to perform the ceremony. I will always be grateful and blessed for having him as a friend. Kevin welcomed me, literally, with open arms. He reminded me of my worth as a child of God and of just how thoroughly the blood of Jesus cleanses us. One of my most precious memories is of Kevin performing my and Charlie Nash's wedding ceremony, and giving us his blessing as we began our journey through life as one. I will greatly miss my pastor...truly one of a kind.

Always wanted to meet the man that I've heard so much about, being one of the only other Childs clans around Conway. Many people have asked me if I was part of that family in conversation, and every single one of them had positive things to say. Many of them had been impacted by Kevin s life in some way or another. People always ask. .. Are you related to Kevin or Bob Childs? I have answered. .. No, we are of no relation, but they must be some awesome people. I get stories about that family at least 3 times a week for the last decade. I have enjoyed each one, and I got a sense that the entire family were very special people. I have always wanted to meet the man behind the legend and had started telling people recently how I planned to do just that. I will just have to wait a little longer now until we meet in heaven. You have left a great legacy that I am certain your family is very proud of. My deepest sympathies go out to all of you.

Kevin and I went to school together, his was a couple of grades a head of me, We had typing together. He was always a nice person to me. I was so Heart Broken to hear of His Passing. Our hearts and prayers are with Polly and the family. Kevin touched countless lives in his walk with Jesus. He loved his family profoundly. He brought my husband to Jesus and I thank God for that. Although he no longer lived here, he continued to touch my life through social media. Every time I mentioned his beautiful singing voice, he would say, "Shhhh". Funny that he didn't want anybody to know that. He is already missed but I know he is walking the streets of gold. May God Bless and hold Kevin's family a little tighter. I love y'all.

Preacher Kevin touched us with his Godly manner - his down-to-earth, God-inspired messages - and his no-holds-barred attitude about sharing Jesus' love for us and his love for Jesus.
