Leonard Tinelli Obituary
November 29, 1933 - July 21, 2022
Surfside Beach, South Carolina - Leonard J. Tinelli age 88, passed away at his residence on July 21, 2022.
Leonard was born in the Bronx, NY to the late Elizabeth and Frank Tinelli.
Mr. Tinelli moved to Islip, NY in 1967 while working as the District Superintendent for the NYC Department of Sanitation, ultimately retiring after 24 years of service. Becoming a member of the volunteer Islip Fire Department in 1971.
During his career as an engine company member, officer and then commanding officer, culminating as chief from 1984-1986.
Mr. Tinelli is survived by his wife of 68 years, Janet, his children; Laura (Michael) Caligiuri, Karen Tinelli and Frank (Melissa) Tinelli, grandchildren; Michael (Joanna), Christopher and Lenny and great grandchild, Michael Christian. Leonard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Garden City, SC.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations maybe made to The American Heart Association at www.heart.org or The American Cancer Society at www.donate3.cancer.org.
