Michael Stortz Obituary
Pawleys Island
Dr. Michael James Stortz, Jr., 78 of Fairway Lane died Friday, February 22, 2013 at Tidelands Hospice House.
Born in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Michael and Victoria Stortz. Dr. Stortz was a US Army veteran serving in the Viet Nam War. He received his degree in chemistry from John Carroll University and later his medical degree from Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago. Dr. Stortz served his community as an Anesthesiologist with Georgetown Memorial Hospital, working mainly in Pain Management for the last 10 years. Dr. Stortz attended Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Patsy Stortz of Pawleys Island; sons, Michael J. Stortz, III and wife, Valerie Pearce of San Francisco, CA and John M. Stortz of Brooklyn, NY; daughters, Dr. Mary Cox and husband Jeff of Lilburn, GA, Laurie Furse and husband, Richard of Mooresville, NC, Lisa Kerns and husband Sean of Cary, NC and Amy Swanson and husband Scott of Blythewood, SC; stepson, Brian Marshall of Tucker, GA; step daughter, Melanie Green and husband Royce of Myrtle Beach; twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, February 25, 2013 at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM, Sunday at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Pawleys Island Chapel.
