Richard Weston Obituary

Richard Holliday Weston
July 7, 1951 - June 1, 2021
Murrells Inlet, South Carolina - Richard Holliday Weston of Murrells Inlet, SC died June 1, 2021, at MUSC in Charleston. Born July 7, 1951, he was the fourth son of the late William Stephenson Weston Jr. and Capitola Catherine King Weston of Columbia, SC. Richard was raised in Columbia, graduated from AC Flora High School and later graduated from Newberry College, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. After college, he moved to the SC coast, where he lived the rest of his life.
Richard always had a smile on his face, was whistling a happy tune, and was a friend to all who knew him. He spent his summers at the family home in Murrells Inlet, where he developed a passion for hunting, fishing, and nature. He was a member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, loved working with Scout Troop 396, and appreciated a full moon high tide. He was a loving father, and he adored his four grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pop. He is survived by daughter Capitola "Cappy" Weston Riley (Jackson) of Greenville, SC, daughter Merrill Weston Bryan (Will) of Murrells Inlet, and son Richard "Rick" Holliday Weston, Jr. (Eden) of Charleston, and grandchildren Capitola Riley, Caroline Riley, William Bryan, and Tack Weston. Also surviving are brother James Carter Weston (Sandra), twin brother Robert Gabrey Weston (Elmira) of Columbia, Jennifer Loud Weston, many Weston, King, and Croft cousins, and a boatload of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers W. Stevenson Weston III, and Eugene King Weston.
A casual memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2021, in front of the Seawall Cross, at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, Murrells Inlet, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Murrells Inlet 2020 or Boy Scout Troop 396.

"...appreciated a full moon at high tide." What a fine memorial to a Lowcountry man. I did not know Richard, but have spent many days photographing and appreciating the gifts of wild nature with his brother Robert. I am sorry for the family's loss.
