Wade Townsend Obituary
Alexandria, Va.
Wade Hampton "Hamp" Townsend, Jr., 60, entered into eternal rest on June 10, 2011 in Alexandria, Virginia.
Hamp Townsend, son of Ruth Elliott Townsend and the late Wade Hampton Townsend, was born January 7, 1951 in Mullins, South Carolina. He was a 1969 graduate of Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. He received a Bachelors degree and then a Masters in Education from the University of South Carolina. He was a high school teacher and coach for several years before starting his career in the lumber business and pursuing other entrepreneurial endeavors.
For the last several years, Hamp was a resident of Maryland and Virginia. Hamp had a quick smile and a kind heart; he was generous beyond his means. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and his family.
His is survived by his mother, Ruth Townsend of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; his sister, Alice Townsend Pearson of Nashville, Tennessee; and a niece and three nephews.
A funeral service will be held noon Saturday, July 2, 2011, in the chapel of the Wildlife Action headquarters between Mullins and Nichols, at 3003 Wildlife Action Road, Mullins, SC 29574. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Wildlife Action or to Woodberry Forest School in memory of Hamp Townsend.

Mrs. Townsend and Alice,
I never remember running into Hamp that he did not have a smile on his face.
We had some great times playing football and baseball in mine and Archibald's yards when we were kids. He was special.

We have just learned about our long time and dear friend Hamp. We are truly shocked and saddened beyond words. We had such wonderful times and shared years of memories with Hamp. He was one of a kind! He loved his family and friends. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Alice. Hamp will always be with us, Jackie and I have such fond memories of his visits with us in California. We were lucky enough to have a great phone conversation with him, just about six weeks ago.

I loved hamp and didn't really ever get to see him much at all! He was the sweetest kindest soul I think i have ever met! the first time I met him I felt like I had known him all my life!
Just a great person! He was in Hughs and my wedding in 2004 and I will miss him! I'm so sorry I had not seen him in recent years!
God bless you hamp! We all will miss you buddy! Thank you for all your kindness shared while you were here with us!!
