Winfred McCracken Obituary

Winfred Eugene McCracken
April 19, 1940 - May 28, 2015
Myrtle Beach
Winfred Eugene McCracken, 75, left this earth on May 28, 2015. He was born in Memphis, Texas, the son of the late Wesley Eugene and Verlin Carolyn McCracken of Pampa, Texas in the Pan Handle, where the wheat grows and the oil flows.
Win is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy; sons, James Richard, and Wesley Todd of Myrtle Beach, SC and daughter, Rhonda Lynn Doyle of Loris, SC; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Joan Kingham of Temple, Texas; and two devoted pet canines.
Win entered the U.S. Marine Corps immediately after high school to see the world and spent four years at Camp Pendleton, California. He then entered the U.S. Air Force for 16 years until his retirement at Myrtle Beach AFB, SC as a Technical Sergeant. Shortly afterwards, he was employed by Better Brands, Inc. for 20 years. After a short period of golfing several times a week, he has worked in security for Barton at Blue Shield/Blue Cross and Sea Mist Resorts attaining the rank of Major.
Win completed his undergraduate degree at Coastal Carolina and finished his advanced degree at Webster University.
Win said, he was the luckiest person ever - he had the opportunity to visit over a dozen countries in Europe and several in Asia. He also visited 38 of the 50 states. On top of this, he was surrounded and blessed by a wonderful family over the years plus friends and several close friends.
Would he have done anything different — most likely? He had an insatiable thirst and desire for any knowledge in any field, frequently reading numerous books yearly plus periodicals, magazines, bulletins and many other publications. His most frequent routine was sitting under the carport in one of the oversized rocking chairs, a gift of longtime dear friends, beginning the day early AM with the Sun News and The NY Times prior to beginning novels and non-fiction books for four or more hours prior to beginning his daily chores/hit/punch list, which he reviewed and maintained daily with follow-up with a passion to ensure his family was taken care of.
Cremation will by Burroughs Funeral Home and burial at Arlington National Cemetery and he will be joined there by his wife.
Wins 10 year experience with cancer to others: "Put it in a cubicle, deal with it, keep a positive attitude, always and maintain your faith — the Lord surely kept me around for some purpose."
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 PM, Monday, June 1, 2015 in the chapel of Burroughs Funeral Home.
