Dean Sack Obituary

Dean Sack
Born: October 4, 1954 in Spring Valley, IL
Died: March 13, 2025 in Peru, IL
Dean Sack, 70, of Peru, passed away on March 13, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Monday at St. Joseph's Church in Peru with Rev. Gary Blake officiating. Burial will be private at Peru City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 PM Sunday at the Hurst Funeral Home in La Salle. Additional visitation will be in the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
Dean was born in Spring Valley on October 4, 1954 to William and Audrey (Dean) Sack. He married Jane Jakse on November 15, 1975, and they created their lives together as partners in all things business and fun. Dean farmed his entire life. He became an apprentice boilermaker at the age of 18 with Local Union #60 and through his construction career progressed from the trades to a series of leadership roles and ultimately retired as the CEO of Allied Power, a company he was instrumental in launching. By the time Dean retired, he had accumulated 50 years in the nuclear energy industry.
Dean's passion was to be busy and productive every day of the week. But his love was devoted to his family. Only his grandsons could tempt him to take some time off to fish or play a few rounds of golf. He particularly enjoyed hosting celebrations and holidays and connecting with his extended families. Dean always believed if you worked hard enough, opportunity opens up and he made sure to share his advice with career-seeking nieces and nephews. He always stressed that a good work ethic and a firm handshake will take you places.
Dean is survived by his wife Jane of Peru, two daughters Rebecca Sack of North Riverside and DeAnna (Eric) Soriano of Chicago, two grandsons Will and Jax Soriano, one brother Bruce (Susan) Sack of Mendota, one sister Louise (Jeff) Zmudka of Oglesby, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved and respected.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
Per Dean's wishes, memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Hospital. As he stated, "No child should have to go through cancer."

Dean left an indelible impression on everyone he touched. I worked with Dean through several decades in the power and construction management fields and his dedication to hard work and fair treatment of his co-workers set a high standard for others to follow. His lifelong devotion to Jane (wife of 50 years); his children; grandchildren; and extended family; are a telling tribute to his life. I personally always loved comparing stories with Dean as we had so much in common. We both were born in central Illinois in 1954; married our first loves in 1975; started our careers in the construction trades at the age of 18; worked our way up for 50 years to executive management positions in the nuclear power industry; and through it all always put the best interests of fellow workers first.

The last time we worked side-by-side was at LaSalle in 2008. He told me I was getting soft when I complained about working in 20 below zero temperatures. I should have known better to complain to a tough old farmer/boilermaker like Dean!

When I last talked to Dean in January, he told me "Tommy, I've had a great life". I Guess that says it all.

He will be missed.

Buck Bland.

Dean was a good friend and co-worker for a great many years. From the 1980's when we worked together at Lasalle Station (Dean a Boilermaker, me a Com Ed Engineer), to the last ten years when I worked for CB+I/ Allied, and Dean was my boss. His practical common sense and personal warmth will be greatly missed. They do not make good men like Dean anymore, and he will be missed
