Died: June 2, 2022 in Bloomington, IL
Donald K. Spierling, 84 of Streator passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, June 6, 2022 at Hagi & Schultz Funeral Home, Streator, with Rev. William Callister officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the services Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Donald was born July 31, 1937 in Streator, a son of Karl and Anna (Novotney) Spierling. He married Alice Jean Branz on August 21, 1960 in Streator. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Christine) Spierling of Kangley and Todd (Kara) Spierling of Rockford; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy (Keith) Grayson of Scottsdale, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Streator. He had worked at Sundstrand in Peru and Vactor in Streator.
Don was an avid woodworker and reader. He enjoyed bicycling and loved to travel. A couple of his favorite past-times were shucking and hulling black walnuts and breaking the little necks of those pesky dandelions. His favorite snacks were ice cream and Jelly Belly jellybeans.
Don enjoyed Drag Racing and was crew chief of Spierling Racing.
