Robert Moore Obituary

Robert Eugene "Bob" Moore
Born: March 12, 1942 in Streator, IL
Died: June 29, 2021 in Modesto, CA
Robert Eugene (Bob) Moore, 79, died June 29, 2021 at Doctors Medical Center, Modesto, CA, due to complications following a stroke.
Bob was born March 12, 1942, in Streator, IL, to Jack and Lucille (McCormick) Moore. He graduated from Streator High School in 1960 and became the first person in his family to graduate from a four-year college, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1964.
After college, he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1965-67 in an artillery division. He returned home to Streator when his tour of duty was up and married the former Beverly Kidd on March 19, 1968.
Bob was a true gentleman who rarely raised his voice and who treated everyone he met with kindness and respect. Those qualities served him well during a 43-year career with the Social Security Administration as he helped older adults navigate the complex system. Bob retired as a claims administrator for the agency in Helena, MT, where he and Bev raised their family and spent the majority of their adult lives. He moved to California after the death of his wife to be closer to family.
He started bowling at a young age, a hobby he and his wife enjoyed together. He was selected to roll out the first ball at the grand opening of a new bowling alley in Streator. He and Bev loved to travel to visit with family and bowl in tournaments. Golf, a talent he inherited from his father, was another favorite pastime, along with playing chess and card games with family and friends. He loved being with his children and grandchildren, rarely missing a game or event.
Survivors include his children, David Moore, Bellvue, NE; Jeff (Lalena) Moore, Missoula, MT; and Alicia (Adam) Frese, Tuolumne, CA; a sister, Carole Hagerty, Streator, IL; grandchildren Jon Moore, Omaha, NE; Tawny Moore, Bellevue, NE; and Jacob, Amanda and Natalie Frese, Tuolumne, CA; great-grandchildren Corde Bell and Kanan Elmore, Bellvue, NE; Niece: Tricia (Merton) Vance, Wilmington, NC; Nephews: David Robertson, Maiden, NC; Mike, Kevin (Nancy) and Tim (Paula) Hagerty, all of Streator IL; John (Kathy) Robertson, Advance, NC; Craig (Jennifer) Robertson, Waterville, OH; and Daniel (Kim) Robertson, Holland, OH;.and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by Bev; his parents; and a sister, Joyce Robertson.
A small, private celebration of life will be held in California on Aug. 8, 2021. The ashes of Bob and Bev will be placed at the Montana State Veteran's Cemetery at Fort Harrison in Helena, MT, August 20, at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

I was fortunate to share a tent with Bob and six other great servicemen in 1966-67. Bob was our "oldest and wisest". He would sit for a game of cards but more often would be on the other side of a chess board. We all sought his wisdom and guidance, and only in retrospect now do I understand his seemingly lack of horseplay. One could sometimes find a window in his stoic personality and would see and enjoy a love of life in another child of the creator. My prayers and heartfelt emotions go out to his family and friends.

I was in Vietnam with Bob with the 1st Battalion 83rd Artillery in 1966-67. On behalf of myself, and the entire 1/83rd family, I want to express our condolences to Bob's Family.
My recollections of Bob were of a quiet and calm person who got along with everyone he met.
He will be missed by his brothers in the 1/83rd.
Lest We Forget.
