Died: December 7, 2024 in Streator, IL
Walter E. Bernard, 89 of Grand Ridge passed away Saturday morning (December 7, 2024) at the ARC – Streator.
A visitation will be held Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Streator.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ken Straughn, Greg Durdan, JC Richards, Kevin Naughton, Chris Over, and Dan Lukach. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Grand Ridge Cemetery.
Walter was born on December 23, 1934, in Mokena to William and Emma (Nietfeldt) Bernard. He married Sally Keller on August 29, 1964. She survives.
Also surviving are son Ken (Melissa) Bernard of Grand Ridge, grandchildren, James, Emily, Joseph and Joshua Bernard and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Earl and brothers Raymond and Norman.
Walter graduated from Orland Park High School in 1952. He served in the National Guard and was a lifetime farmer in the Mokena and Grand Ridge areas.
Walter was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, LaSalle County Farm Bureau, and LaSalle County Stockman's Association. He served as a Farm Ridge Township trustee and a LaSalle County Farm Supply Director.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Ridge Fire Department or the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
