DEERFIELD – Alvin Davis "A.D." Shinaberry, Jr., 77, passed away Tuesday morning (May 20, 2025) in his home.

A.D. was born in Deerfield on February 22, 1948 to Alvin Davis Shinaberry and Jeanne (Conrad) Shinaberry. He was a 1966 graduate of Buffalo Gap High School. A.D. was a life-long farmer and was truly passionate about his work, which encompassed cattle, sheep, pig and poultry production.

He also had worked for Westinghouse/General Electric for a period of time, and was a school bus driver for Augusta County Schools for 13 years. He was a member of the Deerfield Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Deerfield Baptist Church.

A.D. was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Joe Taliaferro; and his father-in-law, Henry Kiser. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Rebecca Kiser Shinaberry; two children, Dana Ramsey (Dale) and Ashley Shinaberry (Carla); three sisters, Maryann Taliaferro, Becky Campbell (Bob), and Nancy Shinaberry; a brother, Curtis Shinaberry; grandchildren Courtney Shinaberry (Jeremy), Aaron Ramsey (Sabrina), and Rebecca Ramsey; step grandchildren Justin, Randy, Samantha and Dale; one great-grandson who was his joy and sunshine, Hudsyn Wayne Whitlock; mother-in-law Nancy Kiser; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (May 22, 2025) in Deerfield Community Cemetery, officiated by Pastors Mark Holder and Curtis Crawford. Family and friends will gather at the Deerfield Firehouse for a meal and mutual encouragement immediately following the service.
